The TDI Intro to Tech course is designed for certified divers who want to begin exploring the world of technical diving. This course introduces advanced diving skills, equipment, and concepts, such as the use of twin sets, stage cylinders, and other specialized gear. It's the perfect starting point for divers interested in extending their bottom time, exploring deeper and more challenging dive sites, and learning about decompression theory and advanced dive planning.


Course Structure:

  • Knowledge Development: Participate in 6 hours of classroom sessions, where you'll cover the fundamentals of technical diving, including equipment configuration, gas management, decompression theory, and dive planning. This foundational knowledge prepares you for more advanced technical diving courses.
  • Practical Skills Development: Engage in 6 open water dives over 4 days, where you will practice key technical diving skills such as buoyancy control, trim and propulsion techniques, equipment handling, and emergency procedures. These dives provide hands-on experience in a real-world environment.


Course Highlights:

  • Introduction to Technical Diving Equipment: Learn the differences between recreational and technical diving gear, including the use of twin tanks, stage cylinders, and redundant systems.
  • Advanced Buoyancy and Trim Techniques: Develop precise buoyancy control and proper body positioning, which are critical for technical diving.
  • Gas Management and Planning: Understand the principles of gas management, including calculating gas consumption rates, managing different gas mixes, and planning for contingencies.
  • Decompression Theory: Gain an introductory understanding of decompression theory, including concepts like decompression sickness, no-decompression limits, and the use of dive tables and computers for dive planning.
  • Problem Solving and Emergency Procedures: Learn to manage potential issues such as equipment failures, gas sharing, and handling emergencies in a technical diving context.


Course Requirements:

  • Minimum Age: 18 years old, or 15 with parental consent
  • Certification Prerequisite: Advanced Open Water Diver certification or equivalent.
  • Health Requirements: Ability to meet the medical requirements for scuba diving.
  • Experience: A recommended minimum of 25 logged dives.
  • Equipment requirements: Twin tanks or Sidemount setup, wetnote or slate, Torch (preferably canister style), dive knife or cutting devices.  


Course Duration:

  • Total Duration: 6 hours of classroom instruction and 4 open water dives over 4 days (typically run by two weekends)
