What Is an Open Water Scuba Course?

Open Water is the world’s most common beginner scuba certification. It teaches the fundamentals of safe diving: equipment basics, underwater communication, buoyancy control, planning, and problem prevention. After certification, you can dive with a buddy up to 18 metres (conditions and experience dependent), and your certification is recognised internationally for travel and local diving.

  • Beginner friendly: No previous diving experience required
  • Skill-based: You earn certification by meeting performance requirements
  • Safety-first: Clear standards, supervised training, and structured progression
  • Long-term value: Builds a foundation for Advanced, Rescue, and technical pathways
