SDI Deep Diver Specialty
Deep Diver Course Melbourne
Train beyond 30 metres with a structured 2-day Deep Diver course designed for real depth awareness, gas planning, buoyancy control and confident 40 metre diving.
Go Deeper With Better Control
The SDI Deep Diver course is designed for certified divers who want to safely extend their diving experience beyond 30 metres and develop stronger control, planning and awareness at depth.
Deeper diving introduces additional considerations including gas supply, narcosis awareness, ascent control, buoyancy changes and emergency planning. This course focuses on building the judgement and confidence needed for deeper recreational dives in real local conditions.
What You’ll Learn
- Deep dive planning and preparation
- Gas management and reserve awareness
- Nitrogen narcosis recognition and management
- Buoyancy and trim control at depth
- Controlled descent and ascent procedures
- Emergency planning and problem solving
Why Our 2-Day Course Is Different
Many Deep Diver courses are completed in a single day. Our course is structured across two days to give divers more time to build confidence, refine buoyancy, understand gas planning and progress into deeper dives without feeling rushed.
This extra training time matters. Deep diving rewards calm preparation, good control and clear decision making. A 2-day structure gives you more opportunity to practise, ask questions and develop real comfort before pushing toward 40 metres.
Real Deep Diving Preparation
Built for Real Melbourne Deep Diving
Deep diving around Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula can involve cold water, changing visibility, current, boat procedures and increased task loading. Training in these conditions helps divers build more realistic awareness and stronger preparation.
This course is not just about touching a number on a depth gauge. It is about understanding how depth changes your dive planning, your gas supply, your buoyancy and your decision making.
Course Structure
Our Deep Diver course is run across two days so divers have time to prepare, practise and progress. The course includes online learning, instructor-led planning, practical training dives and deeper dives conducted according to conditions and diver readiness.
Review theory, plan dives, practise buoyancy control, gas awareness and deep diving procedures.
Complete boat dives and progressive deeper training dives up to 40 metres depending on conditions and instructor assessment.

Deep Diver FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How deep will we dive?
The Deep Diver course allows training dives up to a maximum depth of 40 metres, depending on conditions, diver comfort and instructor assessment.
Why is this course run over two days?
A 2-day structure gives divers more time to practise deep diving procedures, gas planning, buoyancy control and real-world decision making before progressing toward deeper dives.
Are boat dives included?
Yes. This course includes boat dives as part of the 4 training dives.
Do I need Advanced Adventure first?
Open Water Diver certification or equivalent is the minimum requirement, but Advanced Adventure or equivalent experience is strongly recommended before deep diver training.
Is Deep Diver training dangerous?
Deep diving carries additional risks, which is why the course focuses on planning, gas awareness, narcosis recognition, ascent control and safe recreational deep diving procedures.
Do I need my own equipment?
Divers are encouraged to use their own equipment where possible, especially their dive computer. SMB, reel and torch equipment can also be discussed during course planning.
Is Deep Diver required before technical diving?
