Shearwater
When tank pressure and navigation belong on the main display but Trimix and CCR do not belong in the dive plan, the Shearwater Peregrine TX is the practical middle ground. Its 2.2-inch colour LCD favours clarity over watch-style compactness, giving recreational, advanced Nitrox and sidemount divers enough room for pressure information, decompression guidance and core dive data to remain legible when task loading increases.
Two state-aware buttons keep routine setup approachable while supporting Air, Nitrox, three-gas Nitrox and Gauge modes. Bühlmann ZHL-16C with adjustable gradient factors provides the decompression model, and oxygen settings extend across the full recreational and advanced-Nitrox range. For many divers, that is all the capability the actual dive plan calls for, without moving into the price and complexity of a full technical computer.
The TX designation earns its place here. Four compatible transmitters can be paired, allowing pressure monitoring to scale from a single cylinder to sidemount or other multi-cylinder arrangements. A transmitter is not included, so the computer can be purchased first and pressure integration added when required. The three-axis, tilt-compensated compass places navigation on the main screen and removes another common reason to carry a separate wrist instrument.
Power comes from an internal rechargeable battery rated for up to 30 hours at medium brightness. It charges wirelessly and is factory replaceable. Bluetooth supports firmware updates and log transfer to Dive Shearwater, while the included shock cord offers an alternative to the silicone strap for divers who prefer a more adjustable mount.
Peregrine TX is a strong fit when screen size, sidemount support, compass navigation and expandable air integration are the priorities. The standard Peregrine is the more sensible purchase when neither a compass nor transmitter connection is needed. Tern TX provides similar recreational functions in a smaller Freedive-capable format. Perdix 3 is the genuine next step when open-circuit Trimix, CCR, deeper operating limits or user-replaceable AA power are required rather than simply desirable.
